Welcome to the Best of the 1980’s, using Steve Tate’s 3 year composite disk

Ah, the 1980’s !  That’s where computer baseball gaming began for me.  Prior to 1985 it was all about dice, charts, pen and paper and a whole load of arguments.  Then in 1985 I purchased an Apple IIe for school and a game called Micro League Baseball for enjoyment.  Lets just say I did use Practicalc quite often to write papers, but I played Micro League every day.  The first version still required us to score the games by hand, but who cared.  You could now play a full game in under 30 minutes !  Then the stat compiler disk (5 1/4 floppies) came out and we never had to write down another stat or keep manual standings.  Eventually my den became home to many a league.  My friend Tom, who is currently my brother-in-law, bought his copy of the game and we had multiple sites to play our league.  Other games came and went:  Statis Pro, Earl Weaver Baseball, etc, but you never forget your first one.

With the game you got a greatest team disk and the 1984 or 1985 season.  Even in Micro League those 27 Yankees were a doozy to beat.  Somehow Tom and his friend Anthony found a way to get the ‘69 Mets to the World Series.  Even back then people complained about playing against the AI.

Fast forward almost 30 years and I get to revisit those great 80’s one more time.  Steve Tate did a phenomenal job putting together this disk together.  Countless hours of play testing and learning from the 1970’s project make this disk a keeper.  I can’t thank him enough.

Play will begin soon.  We will have 2 weeks to get the first week of games in.  Since the AL and NL have a different amount of teams our schedule maker, Douglas Zaner, had to spend a week or so putting together a schedule that will feature 45 games for each team.

Can’t wait for the first pitch to be thrown in our 19th KOD season.  Hard to believe that this league has survived and flourished over the course of the 7 years it has been in existence.  Most leagues come and go, but thanks to you all (our dedicated managers) this league gets bigger and better every season.

Let the games begin !!!
